nice price deal !!! aÑa / henning baer / norman nodge / musk.... no one knows exactly how, or why it happened. we can only postulate. perhaps it was rogue hydrogen atoms causing havoc again, or a particularly voracious wave of em radiation hell bent on finding a good time. the point is, (in those days) such lude behavior was simply unacceptable: aÑa had become excited, too much so for the solar stiffs that swirled about her. and that system of hers—always buzzing around, refusing to share anything—it had to go. so both were exiled from that collision patch they called home, leaving aÑa and her system to wander the cosmos. some years passed. aÑa grew a little, but mostly she practiced her basswalk—not this girly swooshy thing with your hips, but a real bolshy bovver boot stomp. after a while she got pretty good at it, she wanted to show her friends. maybe theyd like to basswalk too. well, they couldnt get enough of it—but no one did it quite like aÑa. henning baers had a bit more groove to it and this whole new tweaky hat element. norman nodge kept his pretty punchy, but all that time spent in berghain had turned his basswalk into a bit of a skulk. as for musk, the boys inverted the whole thing of course—turned a disco trick, shifting the march down into more of a slinky house glide. aÑa liked them all so much—and it was time isolated system stopped being such a separatist—she decided to gather them all together to make basswalker part i. now you can basswalk too

following on from a pair of extended players released in 2011 (passed me by / we stay together), andy stott returns to modern love with luxury problems, an 8 track album of new material recorded over the last 12 months. five of the tracks on the album feature the voice of alison skidmore, andys onetime piano teacher whom he hadnt seen since he was a teenager back in 1996. there was no grand gesture in mind, it just sort of happened – but after almost a year of studio work the result is really quite unlike anything you will have heard from him before.

4 tracks, taken from the cd album! in >shortcake strategy<, fairytale-like melodies are backed with thought provoking harmonies that pave the way for an explicitly visual experience. we have been introduced to a new face of the berlin-based producer. shortcake is a simple recipe. it doesnt take a lot of planning or much thought or attention when preparing it, and in the end, it will be light, fluffy, sweet, and perfectly satisfying. falko might say the same about his approach to the creation of >shortcake strategy<, yet the end product sees his most dynamic and emotional productions to date, leaving us with the feeling that this comes from a strategy that requires far more thought, and is far more complicated than that of a sugary dessert.

two of the uks most formidable names in techno step into the ring for a head to head on theory. stephen brown is a man who certainly needs no introduction, and his knack of channeling the best of detroit innovation and adding his own distinct flavours shows no sign of letting up. on >fuego< and >polar< brown takes us further into the jacking zone, his signature lush melodies driving up the rear until they envelope the tracks in a haze of deep and emotive vibrations, but never letting up on the tough rhythms. ben sims is drafted in to remix both tracks, leaving slicing shards of sound and roughing up the beat on his remix of >polar<, before delving into a hard-funk take of >fuego<. big business from two keepers of the true techno flame.

eddie flashin fowlkes has always fancied himself as the forgotten producer of the detroit militia, a point which he explicitly points to on the title of this new release for the detroit wax imprint. >unsung hero< is, interestingly enough, quite noticeably un-detroit sounding, rolling on a killer funky 2-step groove and breezy keys which would slot in nicely against the mellower end of uk garage. on the flip >we need more< takes a stripped approach to house with some strange and submerged vocals from don q and restrained organ stabs, leaving it to the steadfast, bongo-laden groove to do most of the work. unsung hero indeed!

manmakemusics fifth release, a 10 inch vinyl-only ep, comes from u, the newest addition to the imprints expanding roster. unlike the labels first four outings that were aimed squarely at the dance floor, this record is a stranger and more pensive affair featuring 4 raw cuts of genre defiant electronica. opener >eah< borrows from 80s chicago house but strips out some of the more familiar tropes leaving just a guttural and infectious rhythm. >evil spirits< is a stuttering mournful piece while >haunted< flips a faintly recognisable sample over a shuffling 4x4 beat. the ep is rounded off with >heaven<, the most optimistic of the 4 tracks, and described by the artist as a warped homage to an idealised golden era of british dance music.

downtown party network from lithuania have been behind some serious releases and remixes over the last few years. combining disco influences with a knack for crafting weighty and warm deep house of the highest order… for their iib debut they have produced a duo of dreamy, melodic and irresistable vocal house gems which stand tall in their own right. as ever, the iib team have drafted in some seriously heavyweight remixers. veteran uk producer richard norris aka the time & space machine has delivered a truly superb rework of >the returning<. bringing the live elements of the track to the fore and unleashing a dazzling eyes closed on the dancefloor moment, and a bit of a classic in our humble opinion! finally scandanavian disco legend prins thomas takes on the same track and transforms it into an epic, spacious mix, underpinned by a widescreen acid bass and relentless, building groove.

special tracks have a special story behind them.and this one certainly does. after mario & vidis recorded a couple of tracks with ernesto for their debut album changed they invited him to perform in their home country. during his short stay in lithuania ernesto performed two times and both times closed his set with a track called care. it was kind of a mash-up - swedish singer & songwriter was using lyrics of his old song to sing over metro areas classic caught up to a big effect - leaving the packed dance floors to a sing along to lyrical hook of sisters and brothers, smokers and lovers, care for me every time. big fan of metro areas sound vidis offered him to do a reversion of this mash-up using caught up as a reference and inspiration. the vocals were re-recorded, new arrangement was done, and the song was tested in the clubs as well as live on stage. so here it is - another big tune from the three to sing and dance along

part 3/3! close your eyes and let go. born in hannover daso enchanted us with this track. it is constantly building up until sunrise. this is how we got to know daso when he was playing his first gig at a treibgut getting our guests up and going. in hannover this night is known as the topless-party-animals-night. not many are as familiar with the treibgut sound as mario aureo proving with this tune. a year ago it was all hands up at treibgut but know we set it free to be passionately celebrated at other parties. leave the orchestra in rehearsals – until they have finished we keep on celebrating to the deep bassline for the plane has just landed. moritz approached this tune verytooly. we just remember him setting up stage for the party, ordering pizza and watching football. frieder, our youngest member, never looses the concept of time and spaces but this track has so much atmosphere in it that you can imagine which cloud he is on. the track comes in easy-going leaving you floating to the end

local talk is proud to present the first release on their sub-label 1nce again. this is where we bring back classic and forgotten house gems from back in the day with new mixes and reworks. for our first release we have gone back to 97 and a producer known and respected worldwide in the house music community with more than 200 production credits under his belt. joshua michaels aka joshua iz perhaps best known for his collabs with dwayne washington as iz & diz but has of course used many other pseudonyms over the years for releases on labels like prescription, balance, classic, junior boys own, om and guidance. the return was first released on heard, sub-label to tom middletons evolution / universal language productions ltd. using his moniker circulation. the track can easily be described as a mammoth house track, clocking in just over 12 minutes. its one of those pieces of music that’s stood the test of time and why iz has been a major force in electronic music for so many years. on the flip much hyped duo prommer & barck stripped it down from its original costume leaving not much left of the source material resulting in something that we best could describe as old school warehouse meets uk bass. its pretty raw and definitely a basement sureshot!

wave turned out to be the last album the patti smith group would record, as it was also last album smith would record before a nine year hiatus. the godmother of punk decided to focus on her family life and moved to michigan, but not before leaving us with gems like the sexually mysterious >dancing barefoot< (dedicated to her husband to be fred sonic smith) and her amazing, biting version of >so you want to be (a rock n roll star)<. produced by todd rundgren, this is her most pop-oriented album, and many at the time could not appreciate her more accessible sound. nevertheless, wave, her spoken word tribute to pope john paul i (who reigned for only 33 days) is as touching and harrowing now as when it came out in 1979. available on vinyl for the first time since its original release!

panacustica’s fourth release is amongst cosmic metal mother’s finest work. “time is now” the track in question, defies definition by mastering a style on it’s own, by fusing elements echoing from prog-rock drenched with emotional content into an adult and contemporary way of delivering which is unique to the cmm writing style. the original is melancholic bliss. a vocal line at the center of the piece whispers words about oscar wilde and mr. death accompanied by a cello melody that grows bigger and bigger into an angelic cascade of notes. the track begins and ends in the most bare way with just a drum beat leaving you with the feeling you have just entered a loop where time is irrelevant. commodity place has the second cut of the a side. the duo from rome, known in the global underground of the vinyl tribes for their signature guitar style, chooses to call their mix “experience”, clearly paying homage to the gods of rock, delivering a guitar solo that will fire up your speakers and fill your eyes with the brightest psychedelic colors that we all so desperately need in this age of grey anonymity. the b-side is a full eight-minute mix by the man who needs no introduction and made us all dance since day one, larry heard, a.k.a. mr. fingers. his version is a fast “four to the floor” track, where a shaker drives the house beat into the melodic lines and voice borrowed from the original, making it one hundred per cent dance floor efficient with the modernity and mastery of his touch
